The club was formed in October 2000 by a group of enthusiastic amateur photographers who were keen to share their hobby with others. The Club is based in Torrevieja, a coastal town on the Costa Blanca, Spain. The Torrevieja Digital Camera Club has a friendly atmosphere where anyone interested in digital photography is welcome.
With the recent rapid advance of photographic technology and lowering costs, more people are changing over from film, to digital cameras. This has been reflected in the Club's growth with a regular attendance of 30 - 40 members..
A programme of meetings and events is published quarterly in advance. Informal tutorials are held where beginners can learn the basics of digital photography and are assisted with the operation of their camera, as well as how to edit and print photographs via a computer. Advanced members are offered separate sessions on techniques of digital photography and computer applications such as Photoshop.
Occasionally outings to places of photographic interest and field trips to local areas are planned with an opportunity for on-site photographic tuition and advice. Professional courses in Photoshop are also available from time to time. Articles containing tutorials and items of club interest are published on this website.
At each meeting a competition is held in which all members, from the complete novice to the most experienced, are invited to enter one photograph, which must have been taken since the previous meeting, and on a digital camera! A new theme is chosen each time and notice is given well in advance in the programme of events on this website. These are friendly competitions, with no prizes given, to encourage members to become more confident in the use of the digital camera and to learn from seeing the examples of other members' work.
